We speculated last week that Republican gubernatorial candidate Bob Beauprez might choose Mesa County Commissioner Janet Rowland to be his running mate, and that’s exactly who he chose in an announcement this morning.
Rowland is an interesting choice and an obvious nod to the conservative wing of the Republican Party (Rowland headlined anti-Referendum C ads that ran last fall on the Western Slope). The downside to the Rowland choice is that she isn’t exactly a household name; if Beauprez is going to be in Washington D.C. the entire month of September, as we keep hearing, someone with a more recognizable name might have been useful to keep interest in the campaign while he’s gone.
